Bluefin-21 (the mini-sub, as its casually been referred to) may be going for a swim as early as today. Unfortunately, it cannot take sonar and a camera with it at the same time. Itll take sonar first, and if it sees anything of interest, itll come up, grab a camera, and go back down for photos. Max operating depth for Bluefin is 4500m. The ocean floor at the location of the pings? 4500m. Theyre operating on the razors edge. It will be fascinating to see this play out.
