Blues guitarist and pianist Andrew Smokey Hogg was born on this day in 1914 in Cushing, TX. During the 30s Hogg worked with slide guitarist The Black Ace in the Greenville, TX area. Smokey was influenced by Big Bill Broonzy and Petie Wheatstraw and was a cousin of Lightnin` Hopkins. Hogg recorded several sides for Decca in the late 30s, but his recording career was disrupted by WW2. After serving in the army during the war, Hogg re-located to the West Coast and began to record prolificly. He scored hits with Long Tall Mama in 1948 and Little School Girl in 1950.
