Boating facilities to get funding boost Round 20 of Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme opens Up to $5.5m for new and improved recreational boating facilities across WA Made possible by boost from State Government’s Royalties for Regions program Recreational boating enthusiasts across the State will benefit from a further $5.5 million in State Government funding for new and improved facilities. Transport Minister Dean Nalder and Regional Development Minister Terry Redman today called for applications under the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS). There has been a significant boost in the overall RBFS program following a $20 million injection from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program. “With this new funding, maintenance dredging has been added to the list of eligible projects in regional areas which will help local governments and other managers ensure safe access to recreational boating facilities,” Mr Nalder said. Applications will also be considered for the planning, construction or upgrade of boat launching ramps, jetties, moorings, breakwaters and new channels directly related to a public recreational boating facility. Land-based infrastructure at public boating facilities - such as trailer parking areas, toilets and boating signage - are also eligible. Boating facility managers can apply for up to 75 per cent of the cost of a project, with the maximum grant set at $1.5 million in regional areas and $750,000 in the metropolitan area. The maximum grant for maintenance dredging is $1 million and the minimum grant limit for works projects is $15,000. Mr Redman said recreational boat owners in regional areas should discuss project proposals with their local government as only eligible authorities could apply for grants. “Support from the Royalties for Regions program will help progress large-scale projects to help meet the growing demand for new recreational boating facilities in regional areas,” he said.
