Bob Geldof, you are not doing Africa (which is a continent made up - TopicsExpress

Bob Geldof, you are not doing Africa (which is a continent made up of 54 sovereign states, with very diverse demographics and geography, in case you did not know) any favours by re-releasing your nonsensical song - Do They Know Its Christmas?. Here are some facts that may interest you - A large percent of the African population is Christian, so Im pretty certain they know what Christmas is. It snows in some African countries during Christmas, and throughout the year in various other African states too (ranging from South Africa to Morocco, just to give you some context), They also happen to grow a lot of their own vegetables, in case you were worried nothing grows there. In regards to water, do you know which continent has the largest river in the world? You guessed it! AFRICA! Im sure youve heard of it, its called the River Nile. I am certain, many people will commend Bob, for bringing together a bunch of famous musicians, to sing and perform a classic song from the 80s, which, at the time, was recorded for the purpose of raising funds for the Ethiopian famine. Lets be honest though, the image you portray to the ordinary, ignorant person through such a song is utterly disgusting and inappropriate. The lyrics represent an image of Africa as a continent, being so many things it is not. I think this is a great opportunity for the British public to stand up once again (as they did in 2008), and take a song such as Rage Against The Machines Killing In The Name Of to the top of the charts, so as to rebel against the status quo. Id like to add, we are all most certainly glad that the song no longer has lines like thank God its them instead of you. For example you have replaced this line with tonight were reaching out and touching you, which is fine, but does a continent like Africa really need anymore of this whole saviour complex? Heres a reminder, for history, more often than not, tends to repeat itself: “When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said Let us pray. We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.” - Desmond Tutu #BobGeldof #Africa #Christmas #GodSaveTheQueen
