Bob Jessop said an important thing about Gramsci that he did not - TopicsExpress

Bob Jessop said an important thing about Gramsci that he did not speak about state as institutional arrangement but about state power- with civil society as terrain of investment- in the war of position, but what I did not like that he said that Althusser spoke only about state apparatuses of repression [ trying to dismiss his theorization on ideological state apparatuses, just because he loves Gramsci more -;)), which is not true -;)) of course - he is well known for his discussion on ideology and ideological subjection . All Marxist spoke in a way or another about ideology. So Jessop says that Gramsci mainly refers to hegemony, which engages ideological apparatuses - so how come hegemony is different from ideology- thats my question ( both simple and complicated to answer) but he also said that Gramsci did not read Marxs German ideology haha - maybe that;s why he spoke about hegemony instead hehe he invented something new, of course more complex but still is close to ideology- I think Burawoy says that whereas for Gramsci hegemony is about conscious consent, ideology in classical Marxist fashion is an error, alienation from the reality of relations of production. It might be that a difference. An essay can be written on that...
