Bob Snow has named intermediate girls sprint queen, Younis Bese, of Gospel High School, as the best female athlete at the 2014 Coca-Cola Games. The former Oceania Athletics Association statistician and now Pacific Games observer rated Bese, Batinisavu Uluiyata, Inia Sili and Waisale Dausoko as the top athletes of the Games. Snow says Bese deserves more praise because she recorded better times than senior girls gold medallists Sisilia Seavula (100m) and Elenoa Sailosi (200m). “What excited me most was the level of performance showcased during the two days at the ANZ Stadium,” Snow said. “Bese’s performance was the most exciting of all the girls who competed in the two days. She set new records of 24.72sec in the 200m and 12.20secs in the 100m. “Bese made her debut at the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna last year and she did extremely well. “And at the 2014 Coke Games, she has moved up a level. She is clearly the number one female athlete in Fiji.” Batinisavu Uluiyata Natabua High School intermediate boys champion won the 200m and 400m. “Uluiyata clocked good times in the 400m and 200m events. Clocking 48.34 seconds in the 400m is outstanding,” Snow said. “He is a very skillful and powerful runner.” Inia Sili Snow urged long distance runners Inia Sili of Suva Grammar School and Xavier College’s Paulo Buke to continue with their hard work. “The 1500m race between Sili and Paulo Buke of Xavier College was exciting. It was a very good race and I hope this will benefit them in the long run,” he said. Sili set a new record in the senior boys 1500m with a new time of 4:07.55 mins. Waisale Dausoko The Tavua College student broke his own record (7.09m) with a new jump of 7.32m in the intermediate boy’s long jump. “Dausoko will go a long way, his performance really impressed me,” he added. Snow is currently compiling the Coca-Cola Games report and will submit it to the Oceania Athletics Association. Feedback: [email protected] fijisun.fj/?p=212868
