Bocas, Day 1:We flew in this morning. After checking in to out awesome waterfront house, We took a boat taxi to the next island. when we got off, i saw a sign that said organic coffee cafe top of the hill. I said look babe, lets get some coffee! Mel says it took about five hours to climb the mountain....it really took about 45 minutes. at first it was Finn, then we realized that we were to far in to give up and determined to find it. Along the way, we saw a photo op of a hermet crab...which Mel described as a gigantic coconut crab that tried to eat him alive! Right, anyhow....it had been raining the last couple of weeks, so the trail was all knee deep mud. My slippers kept getting stuck until finally they broke! Mel had already abandoned his and was dredging thru barefoot like a native! Every once in a while we would come across a sign that said youre almost there like sometimes own little twisted joke! But then it would be another twenty or thirty minutes before the next sign!!! By the time we made it, we had mud up to our hips and were too hot to have coffee!!!!! After a freshing pineapple juice, the owner of the cafe told us we could get down the mountain on another trail leading to the beach. Just before leaving, he said just be sure to stay to the right of the river, and look for the trail signs. The first ten minutes went fine. We saw a couple of signs before....Mel kept telling me to be careful, dont fall but if you do, dont break your fall with your hands so you dont hurt your wrists all that before he flat on his but in the mud, Twice!! Then, we got to the river...and amid the sinking mud up to our thighs....we lost the trail for about two hours!!!! Mel kept sayingdont stop moving, we need to keep going! As i was thinking does that sound belong to a boar or a wild pig...there are snakes and tarantulas here. It started to get scary. Several times i saidwe need to go back the way we came, but my fearless leader was determined. Mosquitos were everywhere, and i was walking around waving my arms like an urangatang to avoid getting bit!! then there was a wooden gate, so we went to it. no one was around...... for miles! In the distance was a partially complete wooden house on stilts. I was thinking that if we really got lost, we could stay there the night! It was like an episode of The Survivor ! Passing the house, i saw a movement in the jungle...it was a man! Mel thought it was an aborigine!!! Lol he looked at us crazy then told us we could cross his property to get back and showed us what direction to go. we were indeed... Going in the wrong direction! We came into a small village, looking like we just fought for our lives! They took put on us and let us rinse our feet and legs. Then we found the nearest waterfront bar and sat down to cheers to surviving while the locals were trying to sell is land on that very same mountain! We were like heck no!!!! We are back at our waterfront property now, sitting on the deck enjoying the sunset:) aside from the prehistoric sized man eating flies that Mel claims bit him, all is good again....
