Bogalusa, LA Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival expands to two days, adds camping for 2014 Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival expands to two days, adds camping for 2014 Now entering its third year, the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival is expanding from a one-day event to a two-day festival that will add on-site camping, a celebrity poster artist, and more. Changes come following a tripling in attendance for the 2013 event, which drew over 5,000 people and included a full lineup of blues musicians, crafts, and food. To be held again in Bogalusas Cassidy Park on Sept. 26-27, the 2014 fest adds an additional Friday night of performances. The festival lineup includes roots musicians JJ Grey and Mofro; Ruthie Foster; Devon Allman; Mike Zito; Johnny Sansone with special guests, Mardi Gras Indians Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Honey Banister and Kerry Vessel; Big George Brock; Paul Thorn; Walter Wolfman Washington; and Big Daddy O Owen Tufts. The fest also includes a secondary stage on Saturday for local musicians. The Heritage stage will feature: Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers; Trent and Zac; the Mandeville High School Jazz Band; Keenan Knight; and the Petty Bones. Returning in 2014 will be arts-and-crafts vendors situated throughout the park and food vendors. According to a Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival press release, Cassidy Park has added a new splash pad, which can be enjoyed by children attending the festival with their parents. There are also on-site playgrounds and two small museums that are free of charge, the Pioneer Museum and the Native American Museum. Also for children, the harmonica workshop will return due to popular demand. The release also indicated the official festival poster for 2014 will be created by a celebrity artist, but the name of the artist has yet to be disclosed. Another addition for 2014 will be on-site camping facilities established specifically for those staying overnight on Friday to take in both days of the festival. There will be limited RV hookups and tent camping along the banks of the Bogalusa River for an extra charge, in addition to festival admission. Showers, restrooms, fire pits and other amenities have been specially established for festival campers, and reservations for camping spots are now being taken. The Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival will take place on Friday (Sept. 26) from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday (Sept. 27) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Cassidy Park, 129 Ben Miller Road, Bogalusa.
