Bogus Theory of Planetary Motion: A few of my friends have posted this video which claims that the laws of motion and gravity as discovered by Newton and Einstein do not properly explain the motion of the planets around the sun. The reason, according to this video, is the calculations must include the motion of the solar system as it moves through the Milky Way Galaxy at a speed of 70,000 km/hr with the plane tipped at 90 degrees with respect to the plane of the galaxy. This is horribly incorrect and, to be frank, nonsense, and the two primary reasons are a s follows: 1. The laws of motion described by Newton and Einstein are routinely used to send spacecraft into the outer reaches of the solar system. If this video were true, then these laws would not be sufficient to make the proper calculations, but in fact, these calculations are all that is needed. 2. The solar system is inclined 60 degrees with respect to the plane of the galaxy, not 90 degrees. This means that the planets will frequently be in front of the sun while in this path, not always behind the sun as if being dragged in its wake as the video claims.
