Boko Haram: F.G urges international community to toe US line THE Federal Government yesterday called on other members of the international community to emulate the US government by taking a hard stance against the Islamic insurgent groups, Boko Haram and Ansaru. The US government had last week designated both groups as Foreign Terrorist Organisations. By the designation of the group by the US as foreign Terrorist Organisation, any body that deals with the groups is regarded as a terrorist as well. A statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Abuja and made available to journalists urged other members of the international community to take a similar stand as the US against the insurgent groups. According to the statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson Mr Ogbole Odeh, the federal government described the designation of both insurgent groups as foreign terrorist Organisations as a welcome development. “It is imperative to note that terrorism and terrorist activities do not recognize national boundaries. It is from this perspective that Nigeria will welcome more support and assistance from the international communities along the line of the US position on these groups”. The statement further assured that, ” the designation of Boko Haram and Ansaru by the US government as FTOs would not lead to any negative repercussion for Nigeria and Nigerians. “The Federal government wishes to assure the Nigerian public of its unwavering resolve to root out terror in all its ramifications, from Nigeria in a comprehensive manner that protects civilians, meets political and economic needs, and fully respects human right” , the statement added.
