Boko Haram: Shot In The Leg, Arm, Stomach, Chest …..Noone Could Believe I Survived – Gujba Massacre Survivor OCTOBER 9, 2013 Musa, a survivor of the Boko Haram attack on College of Agriculture, Gujba in Yobe state, north-eastern Nigeria. The attack on the College of Agriculture in Gujba, Yobe state on September 29, 2013 is one of several by the Islamic sect Boko Haram. The sect always leave in its wake hundreds of families left to bury their dead, mend their wounds, and just struggle to move on. Casualty figures of the Gujba massacre has been put at not less than 70 although official toll was set at 41. News Bytes secured a brief interview with Musa who although survived the attacked on the school, is in great pains in the hospital while his fate hangs in the balance. His story: “We were just sleeping at school (College of Agric Gujba), then around 1 am, the Boko boys came in with their guns asking everyone to lie down, haven surrounded the hostels. “Before anyone could comprehend what was going on, they started shooting us as we laid down terrified. “Not knowing how or what got into me, I managed to struggle with one of our attackers, succeeded in throwing him down but because no other person could summon enough courage to follow my lead (they probably have been shot), I didn’t get helped. “I got shot in my left leg, left arm, had two bullets into my stomach, and another one brushed my chest, I bet it was aimed at my heart. “I managed my way out with the help of God and I took cover. They thought they killed me. Really, no one would have believed I survived” Musa concluded. As at press time, Musa has had surgery. Recall that the assailants who appeared to know the layout of the college attacked the four male hostels but avoided the one hostel reserved for women. They reportedly rode into the college in two double-cabin pickup all-terrain vehicles and on motorcycles, some dressed in the Nigerian military camouflage uniforms, unleashing terror on the students. The security situation in Borno, Yobe states particular poses questions – When will this carnage stop? When will murdering the innocent without winking become a thing of the past? When will Nigeria record a permanent victory over the blood-thirsty few who seem relentless in having their way, challenging our nationhood? Nigerians can only pray, wait for respite, and stay hopeful of a stronger force than these demons of extremism as we all trust God for Musa’s recovery in the faith that more families would be saved unnecessary grief.
