Boko Haram: State of emergency extended Written by Isiaka Wakili The National Security Council has resolved to extend the state of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mohammed Adoke disclosed this to State House journalists today after a meeting of the National Security Council. Adoke, who said the meeting went fine, hinted that the president would send a request to the National Assembly for the approval of the extension of the emergency rule. Asked how soon the president would make such a request, the attorney-general simply said immediately. This might not be unconnected to the continued activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the affected states. The Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, declined comments after the two-hour closed door meeting which ended at about 1.40pm. Our correspondent reports that the third tranche of six-month emergency rule imposed on the three states will expire this Thursday.
