Boko Haram: whatever victory they claim (massive or otherwise) it doesnt endear them to me even for a second but as they say, one mans meat could be anothers poison, so I wouldnt be surprised if some people still regard them as heroes. There hasnt been a war that didnt end with dialogue, an indication that jaw jaw is indeed better than war war. Certain Islamic rebels took up arms against the government of Phillistines over a half century ago and just this week they signed a peace pack to bring the violence to an end but then what happens to the lives lost during the conflict? Your guess is as good as mine. So the case of Boko Haram and the Nigerian state shall be and who would be the ultimate loser? Nigeria and particularly the north east. Apart from Kano and maybe one or two other states in the north that are financially viable enough to augument their development with internally generated revenue without recourse to the allocation accruing from the Federation account, most of them cant even construct a culvert if nothing gets sent from Abuja. So where does that leave these presently ravaged areas? At the bottom of development. Whoever had envisaged Jihad must have been short of vision(no pun intended) because at this level of nations developement, no state is willing to be a bystander while her neighbour, business partner, strategic ally etc gets bombarded over a reason as flimsy as religion. The purpose for insurgency in the north is dead on arrival and I would advise the mastermind(s) of these Boko Haram attacks to shift their attention to wilful conversion of individuals rather than aiming to overrun a country with the sole intention to impose political Islam. Such ideology is unheard of in the 21st century except they are still living in medieval times. #MusingOfSecularist
