Bond yields are up 5 bps. This is another quiet day for economic data. The only report on the calendar today is Canadian housing starts for August, which were down more than expected. August starts clocked-in with a seasonally-adjusted, annualized rate of a little more than 180,000. Analysts had forecast 189,500 starts. That’s down from July which saw an upward revision to a little more than 193,000. CMHC says the August decline was led by urban starts which fell 5.8%. That drop reflected a slowdown in multi-unit starts. However, the agency says starts remain within its forecast range and are relatively stable. North American markets were up in the early going, carrying on from Monday’s winning close.
