It is the longest bridge in Europe with a total length of 17,200 meters (10.7 miles); the bridge crosses the estuary of river Tagus connecting the cities of Sacavém and Montijo. Construction of the bridge began in 1995 and it was open to traffic on March 29, 1998. #9.
