It is the longest bridge in Europe with a total length of 17,200 meters (10.7 miles); the bridge crosses the estuary of river Tagus connecting the cities of Sacavém and Montijo. Construction of the bridge began in 1995 and it was open to traffic on March 29, 1998. #9. Jintang Bridge – China (11.4 miles) Jintang Bridge is built on the Zhoushan Archipelago and is the largest trans-oceanic bridge in the region with a length of 26,540 meters, linking Jintag Island and Yhenai Ningbo. #8. Qingdao Haiwan Bridge – China (26.4 miles) The Chinese managed to build in just four years, the longest bridge in the world over water which has a length of approximately 42 kilometers. Construction was completed in the late 2010 year. Qingdao Haiwan Bridge connects the city of Qingdao, located in Shandong province, and Huangdao district.
