Bone Cancer Research Trust would like to say a BIG thank you to Joan McCarthy who completed the Great Birmingham Run in memory of Alex Read - raising more than £1,272! Mrs McCarthy is head teacher at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy in Ilkeston, where Alex was a pupil. She said she wanted to do something in his memory after he passed away aged 14 this March – over a year after he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Alex was a great lad, full of talent and brought much fun to Saint John Houghton. During his life he never complained or sought attention and fuss. He was and is an inspiration to me and so many others. Thank you Mrs McCarthy for your support and passion to raise vital funds and awareness to help us understand more about primary bone cancer – we couldn’t do it without you!
