Bonneville Speed Week canceled due to flooding Are you an aspiring New or Used Car Buyer looking for your dream car? Visit Cars4sa.co.za Filed under: Motorsports, Specialty, Racing Bad news, boys and girls - at least those of you who love flat-out speed - the Southern California Timing Association has officially announced that Bonneville Speed Week has been canceled for 2014 after prolonged heavy rains flooded the salt flats. Speed Week had been scheduled to start on Saturday, August 9, but had been delayed due to weather. Officials on-site at the salt flats had thought that the area could potentially dry in time for competition, but thats apparently not going to happen. Its possible that record runs will still be held in 2014, as the SCTA is looking into the possibility of extending the World Finals event that is currently scheduled to run from September 30 through October 3, but well have to wait for any official announcements over the next few weeks. In any case, would-be competitors who made the trek to Utah will be forced to go home and make new arrangements if they hope to set a record in 2014. Those keeping track of such things may be aware that 2014 marks the hundredth anniversary of world records at Bonneville, so something tells us that the show will go on, in some form at least. Heres hoping for better weather next time... especially since the chances of seeing a 500-mile-per-hour wheel-driven streamliner are higher than ever before. Stay tuned.
