Bonnie passed along this important info regarding the poisonings/shootings: "Concerned citizens contacted CRAFT regarding cats and kittens being poisoned and shot in a Redmond area. They said they know of a half-dozen cats and about that many kittens that have already died. A volunteer witnessed some deaths and another kitten died this morning. Authorities were contacted but it is hard to pinpoint who the perpetrator is without people in the area being very diligent. Neighbors have be advised to keep their pets confined. (It is important to do this anywhere since there are dangers of all kinds to pets that are allowed to roam.) In the meantime, these abandoned cats and kittens that have no real homes and struggle to survive have no safe haven. They are being rounded up by the concerned neighbors and CRAFT volunteers. They are being transported to a vet clinic where they are spayed/neutered if needed, vaccinated, and treated for injuries. Unfortunately, those that exhibited signs of poisoning died in transit. So far CRAFT has taken in 15 cats and 7 kittens from this location. CRAFT is asking for community support in these efforts. Good quality cat and kitten food, kitten formula, litter, or gift certificates for PetSmart or similar stores would be appreciated. Financial support is needed even though Crooked Tails Vet Clinic in Prineville has graciously donated most vet services for many of the latest group; however, medications, supplies and lab testing are not discounted. Many of the cats and kittens will need ongoing care, and there are still more that are being rounded up. Once adoptable, they will need good homes. Those that are not tame need a safe barn/shop environment; CRAFT volunteers will bring them to you. Foster homes for kittens and cats requiring special care are needed, as is help of all kinds at the sanctuary; and our foster coordinator could use a reliable kitten care helper at her place in Bend. These poisoning events come at a difficult time during kitten season when resources are stretched to the max."
