Books of Wisdom: Dr. Skaterock’s „Vintage Skaterock – - TopicsExpress

Books of Wisdom: Dr. Skaterock’s „Vintage Skaterock – Skateboard music of the 1960`s and 1970`s“ I really love books and it is amazing how well-educated one sounds when claiming to have read a lot of subject literature. Specialized literature however also includes lifestyle subjects such as skaterock, bringing us to our current book review. Previously we had an article in another issue reviewing a book project by one of the Boardstein masterminds. Suffice it to say, the author of the skaterock book is also known from the Boardstein universe. Dr. Skaterock had music-related articles printed in no less than 20 issues of Boardstein. But don’t fool yourself by suspecting the skaterock book to be nothing more than a medley of all these skaterock articles. Only two of the articles have to do with 60´s and 70´s skaterock and what is presented here on almost 200 pages simply surpasses anything seen before. There is no doubt that Dr. Skaterock is truely a passionate collector – he delves into such a special topic which feels completely unfamiliar even to those who know a lot about music. One quickly realizes he or she only knows the most basic or mainstream skaterock related tunes. “Skateboard boy” from the Nits is propably one of the most famous songs fitting the description. The record cover art specifically from the 70′s is truly bizarre (which is no big secret), but in connection with the skateboard topic it is even more fun to see 70′s-styled musicians sporting hairstyles and mustaches from a different planet while trying to balance on skateboards. In addition to record art work and background information, the book also shows a guitar made of skateboards!! Added to my birthday wish list!!! The entire topic is from a pre-CD-era and I can really enjoy one 7-inch record after the other. The book is a must-have for my next visit to a real record store since it now affords me the determination to look for the true vinyl-treasures of skaterock. The lesson is clear: Skateboard- Uh-Ah-Ah! fingerboardermagazine/index.php/books-of-wisdom-dr-skaterocks-vintage-skaterock-skateboard-music-of-the-1960s-and-1970s/?lang=en
