Books of the Year 2013 The stand-out nature book of the year … has to be Mark Cocker [and David Tipling’s] huge and hugely informative Birds & People. Cocker has been observing birds for 40 years, and this grand encyclopaedic look at our relationship with every species is fuelled by both enthusiasm and quiet but profound anger at the often shocking treatment we have meted out to them.
