Boom! Our Urgency Application against the Tuhoronuku Deed of Mandate has just been granted by the Waitangi Tribunal! After waiting with much anticipation we can see some light A Big Mihi to our hapu and lawyers that have been working tirelessly in the backgrounds to attain the beginning of a possible outcome. We also acknowledge our allies from Ruapekapeka to this very modern day. Decision 214. We consider that the claimants have established to our satisfaction that they are suffering or likely to suffer significant and irreversible prejudice because the process for negotiating and settling their Treaty claims is unlikely to be compliant for the reasons we have set out. We do not consider there are reasonable alternative remedies available. All claimants have confirmed they are ready to proceed to hearing. We grant urgency in respect of all applications. 215. We direct the Registrar to convene a teleconference of counsel within 3 weeks of the date of this decision to discuss the next steps in this inquiry including the schedule and timetable for the substantive hearing of these claims. 216. These directions are made upon the terms of the Tribunal panel delegation to determine the applications as a step preliminary to the substantive hearing of the claims.
