#BoomBustRT with @ErinAde #Detroit filed for Chapter 9 #bankruptcy in July of 2013. With an estimated $18-20 billion in #debt, Detroit is the largest municipal bankruptcy filing in US history. Last Friday, a federal judge approved Detroit’s bankruptcy plan allowing the city to reset and regroup after years of financial mismanagement. In only 16 months, the city managed to work out a plan that will eliminate $7 billion worth of debt. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by Julie Samuels – executive director of the Engine Research Foundation – to talk about net neutrality. Julie gives us her take on President Obama’s recent statement defending net neutrality and breaks down his argument. After the break, Erin sits down with Richard Heinberg – senior fellow at the Post Carbon Institute – to discuss oil. Richard tells us how he interprets the potential deal between China and Russia for Western Siberian gas and gives us his take on Saudi price cuts. He believes that the Saudi price cuts could help put the US fracking industry over the edge, making much of the oil from their wells unprofitable. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison are continuing the discussion on oil with a particular interest on shale oil capital expenditures and the market for energy high yield bonds.
