Boring day weatherwise (not a bad thing!) so lets take a sneak-peek into what fall and winter may have in store for us (and even beyond). El Nino has been the talk for a few months now and what that usually brings to the area is warmer winter temps and wetter precip averages. The key to how the weather could play out is the warm water temps in the north Pacific/Gulf of Alaska. This would cause a split flow in the jet stream. What that means is a lot like last winter precip-wise--drier than normal. As for temps, we would be under the influence of a northwest flow which typically brings periodic cold spells and light snows. That region will play a huge role (AO, NAO, PDO, etc plays an important role too but cannot predict what those would be this far out) in how our winter may look...key word in all of this is may. Typically, spring and summer of the following year in an El Nino cycle is warmer/hotter than normal temps and drier conditions. For the past few years we have either been too wet or too dry and it doesnt appear that itll change...feast or famine as they say.
