Born: February 17, 1951 Affiliation: Minhas-Squadron 2, Base Masroor, Pakistan Air Force Personal Information: Recepient of the highest military award NISHAN-E-HAIDER for sacrificing his life above and beyond the call of duty at the age of 20 on August 20, 1971. Background: Born on 17 February 1951, Rashid Minhas was commissioned as a pilot in the Pakistan Air Force. He was taxiing for take-off on a routine training light when an Instructor Pilot forced his way to rear cockpit, seized control of the aircraft and took off. When Minhas realized that the absconding pilot was heading towards India, he tried to regain control of the plane but was unable to do so. Knowing that it meant certain death, he damaged the controls and forced the aircraft to crash thirty-two miles short of the border on 20 August 1971. For this act of extreme bravery he was awarded Nishan-e-Haider, the award which takes precedence over all civil and military awards of Pakistan. - Rise & Rise Until Lamb becomes Lion -
