Born for the last time Srila Prabhupada explains that taking another body will not necessarily lead to a higher status of life. For one who would aspires to be elevated to the heavenly planets for the sake of getting relief from misery, the rules enunciated in the sastras are to be followed strictly. Even that in itself is not a very high goal because once the sukrti (pious credits) are exhausted, the person has to return to the earthly plane. Moreover, in this age of Kali, most of us are lowborn and attracted to sense gratification which is the business of the animals. We are not very much inclined to spiritual life and if we do not act like human beings, we are more or less on our way to be born as animals or trees after the demise of this body. In this connection, Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita: “Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail.”(Bg 8.6) It is of utmost importance therefore that we do not waste the opportunity offered by this human form of life endowed with intelligence. We should try our best to follow the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master who can shower benediction upon us with his merciful instructions. Under such proper direction, we can seek shelter at Krishna’s lotus feet to transcend this world of samsara (endless repetition of birth and death). prabhupadavani.org/main/Bhagavatam/156.html
