Born on: 1st Jan 70 Born in: Pakistan Marital status: Single Occupation: Political Leader Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan’s first gentleman is the widower of Benazir Bhutto was the 11th President of Pakistan. Zardi became famous after he got married with Bhutto in 1987 has an estimated net worth of 1.8 billion. H e was arrested following the collapse of the Bhutto government on charges of corruption in 1996. In 1990 he was elected to the National Assembly and served in Parliament and in 1997 in the Senate. In 2004 he freed from jail and subsequently went into self-exile in Dubai but returned in December 2007 when his wife was assassinated. In 2008 he led his party to victory that made him elected President on September 6, 2008. He then obtained a three-year multi-billion loan package from the International Monetary Fund to steer Pakistan’s economic crisis. In 2009, his political rival, Nawaz Sharif led faces of massive protest against his attempt to reinstate the Supreme Court. In 2010 his vast presidential powers was reduced to that of a ceremonial figurehead through the passage of the 18th Amendment. His first imprisonment in 1999 was due to massive corruption and misused of public funds. His second imprisonment was due to receiving kickbacks from two Swiss firms in exchange for customs fraud. He and his wife were sentenced to five years imprisonment. In May 1999 he was hospitalized due to allege suicide but Zardari claimed it was a murder attempt by the police. In August 2003 he and his wife were convicted of money laundering and they were sentenced to six months imprisonment and they were fine $500,000 and return to the Pakistan government an amount of $11 million.
