Born on November 1, 1943, Al is survived by the love of his life of 50 years, Maxine Roe Tircuit; the pride of his life, sons, Kyle and Derek Tircuit; “his girls”, daughter-in-laws, Jodie Slinker (Kyle) and Tiffani LaBorde (Derek); “his heart”, granddaughter Shelby Diane Tircuit; sister, Jenny Lind Tircuit David, and husband Rusty David; sister-in-law, Marlene Roe Langlois, and husband David Langlois; brother-in-law, Eugene Roe and wife, Betty Roe, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Al is proceeded in death by his parents, Leonard and Genevieve Grass Tircuit; brother, Leonard G. Tircuit, father-in-law, Eugene Roe Sr., mother-in-law, Vera Roe, and nephew, Travis David. Al was a member of Blackwater United Methodist Church and attended Jefferson United Methodist Church, and on Tuesday, July 30, Al met the Lord wearing one of his beloved Tulane t-shirts. Al graduated Baton Rouge High School, class of 1963, and attended LSU. Al was a veteran of the Army National Guard. Al enjoyed spending his time as an LSU Marshall for football and softball games. He was a member of The Louisiana Sportswriters Association, Baton Rouge Kids Baseball Clinic, LA State Retirees Association, Cubs Scouts, Baton Rouge High School Alumni Association, Math Club, Tulane Backers, and North BR Alumni. Although he retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in 1994, he never stopped pursing his passion, being a sportswriter. For the past 50 years, Al covered all sports--primarily high school. He wrote for the Catholic Commentator, The Baker Observer, The Advocate, and The Denham Springs News. His writings earned him many awards from various sports writing associations. Among Al’s favorite recollections of his sports writing career was watching the 1978 Independence bowl in Shreveport with John Wayne. His friends and family recognize his efforts to enable the July 20, 1969 NASA moon landing by actually putting it up there so they could fly to it. Visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816 from 5 pm until 8 pm and will continue Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 9 am until funeral service at 11 am conducted by the Rev. Michi Head. Interment will follow at Blackwater United Methodist Cemetery, 10000 Blackwater Rd., Baker, LA 70714. Pallbearers will be Jason David, Ryan David, Jereme Grass, Craig Huval, Christopher Langlois, and Sam Muffoletto. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70809, or Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Rd., Baker, LA 70714. Alternatively, you could also purchase a hat or T-shirt from the Tulane Athletics Gift shop. We’re pretty sure they lost their biggest customer.
