Born on this date in 1960 in Lebanon, Ohio, Marty Roe (lead singer for the group Diamond Rio), who was named for country music artist Marty Robbins, began singing country music at the age of three. During his high school years, he played the trumpet, guitar, and the mandolin in a stage band, and was even a member of the jazz band. Since the birth of Diamond Rio in 1984, Marty and the group has recorded seven studio albums, two Greatest Hits compilations, and an album of Christmas music. Three of the bands albums have achieved RIAA platinum certification in the United States. In addition, Diamond Rio has received four Group of the Year awards from the Country Music Association, two Top Vocal Group awards from the Academy of Country Music, and thirteen Grammy Award nominations. Marty is married with two daughters, and enjoys fishing, golf and racing. He attributes his musical influences to Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, George Jones, and Buck Owens.
