(Borrowed from a friend; This is well written and pretty much sums it up.) What ASD Parents wont tell you *Were jealous of you (even though we wouldnt change our lives for a second) *Were stronger than we knew, but feel weak *We want to hang out, but dont have the energy *We have horrible memories because Autism fills our brains *Were scared/nervous about the future (Ours and our childs) *We are beyond exhausted (even if we manage to get a full night sleep) *We have unexplainable anger (toward insurance, school, NT parents, ourselves, life) *We never feel like weve done enough for our child *We dont want pity... we want genuine help, understanding, acceptance *We want you to ask about Autism and our child *You will never understand our lives fully, but its nice when you try to *We cry.... A LOT (good and bad tears) *We mourn for the child we expected (or had to watch disappear) *Were embarrassed by our messy house, but just dont always have the energy to straighten up *It breaks our heart when we see a child do or say something that our child should be able to do We are so thankful for those that have stuck around (if anyone has) *We dont mean to be picky about certain things/situations, but we know the outcome if something isnt exactly how it needs to be for our child
