Borrowed this hilarious clip from a friend earlier... v=I8JlQNIvIfI&sns=em I loved SCTV (Ed Grimley, anyone?!), and Im so glad Richard Harris was so good natured to go along with this! In truth, when this song hit the air, my HS sweetheart broke up with me, and it became my anthem! Most kids in school knew I was a product of musician parents, so they went along with my wide range of genre likes. Anyway, soon thereafter, my dad arranged this for his group (as did everyone!)... But my real musical awakening to this song was thru jazz band leader & ultimate trumpeter, Maynard Fergusen. Because of my dads heritage in the biz, I got to meet and appreciate some of the greatest: Drummer Louis Bellson, Ella Fitzgerald, and of course ol Blue Eyes and the rest, on down. He arranged & composed for the best of the best, orchestras and big bands (when he wasnt busy arranging over 300 songs a year for his other asst. harmonica gangs and soloists, and being one of the best on harmonica as well). I gained an appreciating of all types of music, and am but a mere percussionist myself... But I know music and have mentored some on to the best of their potential. But for now, I hope you get a kick outta Maynard (even if jazz isnt your fave flave), and yes, I got to see one of these shows at the Riv before his & my fathers passings. Take what you can & pay it forward... youtu.be/ova0NyHbGKAk An earlier, even better live version: youtu.be/2DWktSv8vec Many other live perfs & the original can be viewed on YouTube. And now, back to our regularily- scheduled programming...
