Boston Update- Monday: Our little guy continues to be a rock star. The team weaned down his flow once again this am. So since Friday, weve decreased from 12 to 6! He is cruising through. Hes still producing urine but right now it isnt wise to challenge his kidneys so soon after extubating. Fluid balance is critical right now for keeping him comfortable to breathe. If he happened to retain a lot of fluid- he obviously couldnt breathe as easily. So, the consensus is to continue dialysis a bit longer. Let his kidneys continue to rest and heal. And at the same time, this will allow him to continue to get stronger and get used to breathing again independently. After all, he was only able to do that for 5 days before he was hospitalized. Pretty incredible huh? He has been upgraded to a big boy bed now that will be able to bounce him some! It does vibrations so that his lungs get a little chest PT :-) Nurses say that babies LOVE it and are deprived once they get home! Haha! Dont worry baby boy... You have 3 sets of arms at home that cant wait to bounce you all over the place!
