Boston update: Saturday--we have had an eventful weekend here in DC! The girls have just eaten their baby brother up. Hes much more alert than he had been last time they visited so they have really enjoyed getting to see him move and have his eyes open. Boston even made a little grin at Bs funny faces Friday night. She was in big sister heaven!! This am, I almost started a fire in the RMH kitchen. No, Im not exaggerating. Dont put a donut in the microwave on 40 min 😳 ( of course I thought I hit 40 seconds....) We were also able to get a family Christmas card photo in. GG was able to drive up and spend some time with the kids also! Lots going on! Boston is doing really good this weekend. He is up to full feeds! First time ever. And tolerating well. He will be off the nitric tomorrow night. His echo from Friday showed his heart function was fantastic but if all is well, he will still get routine cath on Tues am. After cath, the plan is to start making a plan on stopping the dialysis and to challenge his kidneys as well as see where we are respiratory wise. Hes on low vent settings now and very comfortable but the team is still concerned that he isnt strong enough to be extubated yet. So, they will begin to get vigorous with weaning rate next week also and if he doesnt respond well, we will entertain the thoughts of a traech temporarily. Day by day... We are learning... Life in the ICU certainly isnt predictable. We are just blessed to be where we are. Weve made it soooo far!
