Both our alarms sounded together – 5:30AM !!! I had also left the curtain open so the morning sun would rouse us, but alas, we had to get up to watch it rise. Very bleary eyed after backing up with a night of Moet and Bruce Willis movies, we showered and shoved the last of our things in our cases, ready for the journey to Brisbane airport. With a little bit of a heavy heart we left the absolutely beautiful ‘The Beach” at Cabarita. Put it on your ‘to do’ list it is gorgeous beyond belief and Caba beach is world class. Bye room, thank you for letting us have the most lovely and romantic wedding! Three hours later we were having noodle box at Brisbane international airport. You really can’t fault the train system, except it’s nearly eighty bucks for the two of us one way. Would be nice if you got a discount with your flight, oh well. So we board a not so big Air New Zealand plane, comfy and lovely with built in videos in every seat. Never travelled NZ air but was impressed as there was a free ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ game for me AND free docos for Mickstar ☺ Happy us. The flight flew (excuse the pun). I sat next to the delightful Faye, she owns one of the local town businesses and I got a bit of a run down on what to expect. My favourite quote from her was regarding the tourists – ‘They were either Newly wed or Nearly dead!’. This made me giggle, but looking around the other passengers, I quickly realized, we may just be the only ‘Newly weds!’ Norfolk airport is gorgeous. The island itself is gorgeous and we have decided there will be many ‘Wow’ moments on this trip. Standing in customs it was very calm and relaxed, everyone was super friendly and helpful and even though the man in front of us – a model plane enthusiast who was on a return annual sojourn – was a little miffed at the speed (or lack there of) of the line movement, we breezed through fairly unscathed. Outside waiting for us was the owner of our accommodation the lovely Charisse, who escorted us to our waiting hire car and we followed her to “Shearwater”. Wow!! We quickly discovered Charisse and her late husband owned and built the whole property, she has been here just over thirty years. Came for a visit and just never left, a similar story to Faye. We were upgraded, maybe because Faye knew Charisse, or maybe because we are ‘Newly weds’ but we have a gorgeous gorgeous villa, right next to the spa room overlooking the most amazing bay. I am sitting in my recliner right now sipping on Chapagne and nibbling on Gouda and Pate as I write! Tough, I know but someone has to do these things! Anyway, I digress; we popped into town and had a wander. I am trying to find a battery for my 7D which I brought stone cold dead AND it is so picturesque here I will be dirty if I can’t fire her up! No luck with the battery, but we did find the bottle-O!!! Oh yeah!!!! Go off Norfolk!! 1.125L of Vodka $18!!! Needless to say we stocked up! Vodka, Scotch and Bacardi, and we still have three to go and a whole week here! Even without the ticket discount it’s cheap. Mind you that does make up for the supermarket! OH dear! We decided to stay in tonight as we are so tired from our early start. Wow! There was another wow moment - $7.50 for a packet of Doritos!! LOL, Caitlan you could not live here. We managed to find some reasonably priced fodder and trundled home. Enjoying the sunset and about to try out the spa room. Tomorrow, we do a cooking course and garden tour. We go to the farm, pick all the produce and then take it back to the kitchen where a gourmet chef teaches us some techniques, then we eat what we cook and drink all the wine we can handle! Sounds like a great first day out… watch out for pics!
