Both the National Household Survey (NHS) and the Labour Force - TopicsExpress

Both the National Household Survey (NHS) and the Labour Force Survey (LFS) collect data on the labour market activities of the Canadian population. The LFS is a mandatory survey. It covers the civilian, non-institutionalized population 15 years of age and over. It is conducted nationwide, in both the provinces and the territories. Excluded from the surveys coverage are: persons living on reserves and other Aboriginal settlements in the provinces; full-time members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the institutionalized population. National Labour Force Survey estimates are derived using the results of the LFS in the provinces. Territorial LFS results are not included in the national estimates, but are published separately. www12.statcan.gc.ca/nhs-enm/2011/ref/dict/a2-1-eng.cfm Skews Canada’s true picture of unemployment and throws into question one of the government reforms meant to encourage employers to hire aboriginals and other Canadians before looking overseas. Despite a clamp down on the temporary foreign worker (TFW) program, the door to foreign workers remains open on First Nations, as illustrated by a Globe investigation that found a cafeteria owner on an Alberta reserve was granted approval to hire foreign workers even though an estimated 70 per cent of residents don’t have a job. theglobeandmail/news/national/canadas-skewed-labour-data-tips-balance-in-favour-of-foreign-workers/article21158372/ Join us: https://facebook/groups/ndpapc/
