Bowls Around Holland - When in Amsterdam I also launched the following project. The project, with oversight provided by art/food/design curator Martin Kullik, begins with chef Emile van der Staak, a rising star in the Dutch food scene. It will travel throughout Holland via the hands, homes and hearts of chefs to collect recipes, stories and images of contemporary cooking throughout the Netherlands. The bowl, created in my studio at NDSU in Fargo, travels in this beautiful 1930s picnic basket I found in a vintage market in Amsterdam. The basket also provides a recipe and story collecting hard cover book designed by Jordan Nelson (who has shaped the aesthetics of all of my projects, thank you Jordan!). The bowl will travel for up to a year and I am excited to see where these creatives take the project. In the end I will work with the resultant information and curate an exhibition and (with the right funding) a document that will share the project to the broader public. Thank you once again to my awesome friend and curator Namita Gupta Wiggers for working with me on the original iteration of this project in Portland at MOCC. It is now time to push the project into new spaces.
