Bowls Report Narrabri’s top Men’s Pennant Team will take on West Tamworth this Saturday at Gunnedah to decide Zone 3’s Number 3 Pennant Flag winners. The players selected to represent are; Nathan Collis, Bruce Cowan, Trinity Kelly, Kevin Baguley, Kevin Baker, Cameron Yates, Ty Baker, Paul Hulbert, Laurie Gilbert, Bob Ireland, Adrian Samuelsson and Graham Spence. Reserve is Luke Solomon and Manager Allan Gray. Please contact Archie Sheppard, Graham Rose or Sam Kelly if unavailable. It is also requested that those selected above are to be at Narrabri for a Roll-Up at 3 pm Friday May 30 if possible, and at Gunnedah by 9am for a Roll-up prior to Saturdays play. Narrabri’s Tapscott Services Major Singles continued over the weekend with Bruce Cowan and Graham Spence playing a previously deferred game. Bruce got off to a lightning start and led 6-1 in the early stages before Graham found his composure to level the scores up at 8 all. Bruce then surged away again to lead 25-13, however Graham came back to be within four shots with the score being 28-24 in Bruce’s favour. It was then shot for shot before Bruce went on to win 31-26. Bruce then lined up against Archie Sheppard in the Semi-Final and jumped out to another good lead with the score at 19-6 mid way through the match. Archie then started to find his rhythm and outscored Bruce in next 8 ends to be behind 14-23. Archie then went on to win 14 of the last 17 ends to win the match 32-30 and is the first into the Final of the Clubs Premier event. The Semi-Finals of the Tapscott Services Minor Singles also played out over the weekend with Neville Ryan defeating Trevor Dean 31-23 and Graham Rose defeating Dave Dewar 31-15. From all reports some excellent Bowls played in both matches with Graham and Neville to battle it out in the Final at a date yet to be allocated. The winner of this one gains automatic elevation to the Major ranks. An epic battle of Tapscott Services Veteran Singles was also played last Sunday with the match-up of Brother in laws Neville Ryan and Tony Redman. Tony led this match on several occasions with the score being in his favour 6-0, 11-10, 17-14, 20-18 and 23-20 before Neville got the score back to 29 all and on to win 31-29. Neville is now in the Final of this event and waiting for the Winner of the Sam Kelly and Ken Smith match. The Idle Rich were on the greens Thursday May 22 with John Lancett, Archie Laird and Kerren Todkill defeating Ian Bailey, Bruce Tomlinson and Tony Parker 13-10. Max Pringle, Anthony Welchman and Jeff Cloake drew with John Melbourne, Fred Baldwin and Barry Sheppard 15 each. Fred Jackson and Frank Elder drew with Clive Norrie and Basil Sandy 15 each. Sunday morning bowlers were back in force on the 25th of May with the winning vouchers going to Dawn and Colin Armstrong (28 +20) and runner ups Marie Redman and Beverly Ryan (26 +29). I here there may have been a card go into the NABA Cup after the weekends play as well. Championship matches scheduled for this weekend are; Saturday 31st May at 1.30pm - Semi Final Minor Fours.
