Box Office Prediction: Fan, Brothers, Jagga Jasoos, Singh Is - TopicsExpress

Box Office Prediction: Fan, Brothers, Jagga Jasoos, Singh Is Bling Like 2014, the second half of 2015 has plenty of big releases. Salman Khan has two big releases, Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Kabir Khan’s Bhajrangi Bhaijaan. Shahrukh Khan doesn’t get a festive release this time around, as Yash Raj Films’ Fan releases during the Independence Day weekend. The other much- awaited releases are Dharma Productions – Akshay Kumar film Brothers, Ranbir Kapoor’s Jagga Jasoos and a few other films. Check out the Part 2 of our Box Office Prediction. Part 3 with festive release (Eid, Diwali and Christmas) will be covered in an article tomorrow. Click here to read Part 1. All Is Well (50 – 55 crores): Umesh Shukla gave the rapturous social drama called OMG! Oh My God which made waves a good 2 years before PK arrived and discussed the same issues. This time he has joined hands with Abhishek Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor for this social family drama. We are expecting a good film but we are not sure if Abhishek will be able to pull in the crowds all by himself. Brothers (140 – 145 crores): Brothers is the official remake of the 2011 Hollywood hit film called Warrior. The Hollywood original wasn’t too commercial but we expect Karan Malhotra to make the story a lot more commercial and adjust it to suit the Indian audiences’ taste. The film has a very emotional human story and with a cast that comprises of Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra, we expect Brothers to be a big hit come 31st July. Although the film has the potential to be a much bigger grosser, the only problem could be the release date – Brothers releases between two big films like Bhajrangi Bhaijaan and Fan. Fan (165 – 170 crores): Fan is a big departure from the big films that Shah Rukh Khan has been doing lately. It is about a fan and his struggles told in a light hearted manner. Noone knows the intricacies of the script. Yash Raj Films are holding the cards close to their chest and not revealing any details. This could only be a good thing as they don’t want to reveal anything beforehand. We expect Fan to be a landmark performance in the latter career of SRK, but it’s box office prospects would depend on a lot of factors. Fan would be Shahrukh’s first non- festive release since My Name Is Khan and the film would release two weeks after Brothers and two weeks before Jagga Jasoos – both massive films! Fan – Badlapur – MS Dhoni: Box Office Prediction Jagga Jasoos (140 – 145 crores): The last Anurag Basu + UTV + Ranbir Kapoor collaboration made 120 crores with a non-conventional but heart warming film like Barfi. This time they are back with a slightly more commercial film and have taken Ranbir’s real life girlfriend Katrina Kaif as the lead actress. UTV are hoping to create a franchise out of the Jagga Jasoos films. The film reportedly has more than 15 songs which help tell the story. We love the way Anurag tells his stories and combined with all the factors mentioned above, Jagga Jasoos should turn out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Singh Is Bling (115 – 120 crore): The general perception in the public regarding the film is that it is the sequel of Singh Is King. And this could only help the film in the long run. It is being directed by Prabhu Deva who still has a loyal fan following in the small towns and it obviously stars a Superstar like Akshay Kumar. We are not sure about the quality of the film and we are not expecting a lot, but the recall value of Singh Is King will bring in a lot of audiences initially to the theaters. If the film turns out to be as entertaining as Akshay’s 2008 super-hit, then it could go on to be a much bigger grosser. Also, Akshay reunites with the director of his most successful film – Rowdy Rathore. Shandaar (60 – 65 crores): Vikas Bahl is one of the most sought after directors in Bollywood right now after the runaway success of Queen. He has now teamed up with Shahid Kapur and Alia Bhatt for this destination marriage family drama. The genre of the film might be new but we are sure Vikas will have an interesting story to tell through this film. Also, the pairing of Shahid and Alia will be interesting to witness in Shandaar. The film should go on to be a solid multiplex hit. MS Dhoni: Untold Story (85 – 90 crores): Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the iconic Indian heroes of the new millennium and there are very few people in India who don’t know about Dhoni. His sudden retirement from test cricket has showed the type of influence he has on the Indian public. The interest around the film will be huge and it will be fascinating to see how a fantastic director like Neeraj Pandey tackles the human aspect of the mammoth success story of arguably India’s greatest cricket captain. We are very excited to see Dhoni’s life encapsulated on screen. ABCD 2 and Badlapur (70-75 crores and 45-50 crores respectively): Varun Dhawan has two scheduled releases for 2015 and both of them are diametrically opposite of each other. While ABCD 2 is the sequel of the successful dance film Any Body Can Dance, Badlapur is a dark edgy revenge thriller where he plays a character older than he is in real life. Both films will give Varun plenty of opportunity to showcase his talent. ABCD 2 should go on to be the bigger success amongst the two, as it seems a lot more commercial. Also the presence of Shraddha Kapoor should help! And finally we come to the festive releases of the year – i.e Eid, Diwali and Christmas – easily the most lucrative period for film business. While Christmas has emerged as the biggest period in the industry, thanks mainly to Aamir Khan, Eid comes second. 2015 could end with a Shahrukh Khan – Rohit Shetty film, what sort of business could that film generate – as their last outing together smashed every record in sight. Predictions tomorrow! Keep visiting.
