Boy do I wish I could travel back in time. We are getting a new used piano on Wednesday. Have to get the old one out to make room for the new one. My wonderful wife Liz painstakingly removed lime green paint from it 15 years ago. I played the piano often. We moved it with us from Menomonee Falls to Antigo. I still played the piano. Over the years between tunings the sound board cracked and it got some sticky keys. The sound got so bad that I could not bare to play it. Cassie Fay started playing last year and really enjoyed it but the sound and keys were just horrible. My sister Carol Caninelover is moving up to Antigo and wanted to know if we would like her piano because she no longer has the space. Liz and I decided to accept the new piano. In order to make room for the new piano the old must go. Liz began to take apart the piano just like she did 15 years ago. The internet has grown a lot in that time. For shits and giggles I Googled the name Melville Clark, Chicago. In 3 minutes I new that I made serious mistake. Our piano was built in 1901 or 1902. Restored value for 1904s was 18,000. This is right after not being able to remove one wood screw. Not quite sure what the part under the keys is for, but its in multiple pieces now. We have now stopped taking it apart and have emailwe the expert to see if the wood action or keys are worth anything or need for another restoration. Now we have to make room for 2 pianos in our front room. I guess I shouldve googled the piano first. Wish I had a time machine.
