Boy next door turned rockstar of the decade — Atif Aslam by Atif Aslam- ll Voice of Hearts ll Post ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ success with ‘Mori Araj Suno’, ‘Bol Ke Lab Azaad Hain’, hit song album with ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, artist looks forward to ‘Jal Pari’ anniversary celebration By Saira Agha Some say he was the best thing that happened to the music industry in early 2000. Some say he was what the industry needed post Vital Signs, Nazia Hassan and Junoon’s era. Some agree and many others take note. For the chocolate boy who looked good and sang as if a whole orchestra was in tune was here to stay. A little feared the future of his music career following Jal’s break-up but there were myriads who just knew the bird had left the nest to soar. Atif Aslam flew and conquered the music industry single-handedly without a godfather to guide or lead. But Atif didn’t fly own. He carried Pakistan’s name loud and proud, gaining fame, recognition, humongous success and winning the hearts of the entire-subcontinent. Nine years later, he has performed all over the world, toured in all the major cities and regions, jammed with music maestros and legends, delivered hits after hits and is just everywhere. Mira Nair’s ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ may have enjoyed massive success at the box office, ditto to that of its book’s fate, however Atif’s “Meri Araj Suno” and “Bol Ke Lab Azaad Hain” shook the entire eager enthusiasts awaiting the film. Atif sizzles and grips one with his strong vocals and heart-felt tunes, paving way for a skyrocketing success that awaits him further. “I believe it’s huge honour for me to collaborate with the legendary Peter Gabriel on ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ album. He is someone who is not just a music veteran but is an entire institution in himself. I was awed and humbled at the same time working with him. And to have a person of his experience admire me and encourage me was simply overwhelming,” says a very modest and humble Atif while talking to Daily Times. “The film’s music album has been very carefully and meticulously arranged in terms of its compositioning and artist’s alignment. Meesha Shafi has done a remarkable job with “Bijli Aaye Ya Na Aaye”. Despite us sharing a large fan following for our work, both Meesha and I are very different artists. Our genres are both distinct in their own way and yet it’s amazing to see the humbling response to our songs. I have nothing but gratitude for the response given to Mori Araj Suno. It does indeed take you to another world, I know because it took me too,” he added. “From working with Peter Gabriel to Sarmad Ghafoor, Meesha Shafi to Matt Sorum, Gilby Clark to Prabhu Deva, the interesting I get to learn out of all these artists who are belong to so many different genres and mediums especially is a beautiful, educative and joyful experience and I am truly blessed for that,” Atif further adds. The optimism and eagerness for life and adventure in Atif is surely commendable. When asked what’s next ahead for him, he says, “Right now, the massively favourable response to ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ album is much to be enjoyed. I have recently toured in Thailand and again t see so many of fans and supporters there was indeed encouraging and very humbling. Other than that, my recently released music album of upcoming Bollywood film ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ is already a hit, my favourite being Jeene Laga Hoon. And then I’m very excited about the anniversary celebration of ‘Jal Pari’. We are planning to do a show for it in Pakistan.” We also eagerly await ‘Jal Pari’ anniversary celebrations. Isn’t that where it all started for the rockstar? Source = dailytimes.pk/default.asp?page=2013%5C06%5C21%5Cstory_21-6-2013_pg9_14
