Boy what a day we have had today! Do any of you have really good neighbors? CHERISH them ! We have mostly good neighbors EXCEPT for the ones whose property directly connects with ours behind our house. They are the neighbors from hell !!! We had to call the police TWICE today: once for the damage the husband Mike Robbins did to our yard and a second time when his wife, Erin threatened us (after the police told us to go ahead and temporarily fix the damage they had made pending getting the Village involved tomorrow) saying, You better stop fixing that because Mikes just gonna kick it down again! The second officer told them to stay off the property pending the Village Building Department coming tomorrow... then told us, if they do it again... just call them again. Sigh We have lived in this house since 1988. The Robbins moved in 10 years ago. There has always been a small fence between our properties, probably put in by one of the original owners of our home (we are the 4th set of and longest termed owners since it was built in 1977). The fence has been routinely broken, damaged, torn down... while we have made repeated repairs to damage caused by our neighbors. Finally, sick of making almost weekly repairs, we decided to remove some of the fence (hoping to promote neighborliness)... except for one small section where the ground keeps giving way because the Robbins built up their driveway so it is several feet above our property line. We have spent the last few weeks cleaning out the accumulation of their garbage that had collected between our fence and their stone wall. Now that fence had been there probably since 1977. The stone wall elevation was put in after they moved in about 10 years ago Last week... We found that small portion of the fence not only torn down, but scattered on our lawn and my flower bed (which was in front of the fence, torn up. We sighed, got out our tools are re-repaired the broken fence and tried to salvage the remaining, lilies, irises, spearmint and wildflowers. We hammered in garden stakes to support the hill, which had now caved onto our lawn. Today, just a few days later, not only was it torn down again... but the original fence posts with wire still attached, AND the new garden stakes had been ripped out of the ground and thrown onto our yard. About half of my flower garden is now destroyed. We called the police and were told we cannot get them for vandalism, nor can we file a complaint against them (because its supposedly a he-said/she said situation. We have a survey of our property line. They do not. Erin was screaming We have a deed and it says this is our property! Deeds do not show property lines, surveys do and we remember that Mike had told us he never had a survey done when he bought the property. So now we have to get a new survey done AND if we want to put up a secure fence it will no longer be grandfathered into the area where the original fence was placed, but will have to go by new Village rules. The fly in the matter (for the Robbins) is that they also built their elevated driveway without a survey... so it may fall within those new guidelines where NEITHER neighbor is allowed to build. Neither Roger nor I were feeling particularly well today to begin with, but the heat and humidity added to the over-all weariness of digging and repairing that fence area (again) carting away more debris and finishing mowing the lawn. Rog is almost 70 and I am in my 60s... this kind of stress is not needed! The following photos show how we are trying to stabilize the wall now that the fence has been torn down and/or kicked down by Mike. Hopefully we will get some help from the Village, tomorrow. We just want to live in peace & quiet. Is that too much to ask???
