Brace Yourselves, More Poetry. I wrote this just tonight, in the past hour actually, so its kind of rough. “ I felt the echo of your heart It was like sonar against my head, That rests upon your chest. I knew that there was weight to every word that you said The meaning of your words Reached my heart and then Sank. It sank through my ear drums, And past my brain It echoed in my lungs and kept on going, It dropped like a chain. A chain of never ending thoughts That weighed you down every day. And then it stopped. Because it reached my heart And I finally felt your pain. When the light left your eyes, I gathered all the love I could muster And by some hand of fate, The words that you needed to hear Well, they just appeared. ‘You’ll always have me’ Was the line echoing in my head And the words came to life Because that was all that needed to be said. And after the silence, Your arms held me tighter. You gathered your words In order to mutter, ‘I think I’ll be alright.’ And all I could think to say was, ‘Of course you will’ Because that was the only way. “ “The Only Way You’ll Be Alright” By Arianna Michaelson
