Bracknell Bees sign Tom Annetts & Ben Paynter. The Bracknell Bees have agreed terms with goaltender Tom Annetts and forward Ben Paynter for the 2014-15 English Premier League season. Annetts, 27, re-signs for his third straight season with the Bees and fourth overall, while Paynter, 19, has won his first full-time contract with the Bees after impressing in a 30 game audition last season. Annetts maintained a 0.893 save percentage in 27 games last season as he formed a strong goaltending tandem with Mettam that grew stronger as the season progressed. Paynter for his part chipped in four assists and 20 PIM in 30 games while playing a physical end-to-end game. Commenting on the signings, Bees GM Ben Beeching said Tom was a key part of our team last season and really stepped up to the plate when called upon. I felt he really worked well with Alex Mettam and they seemed to have a good working relationship. As well as this Tom is a great guy to have around the team and is quickly emerging as one of the leaders on the hockey club. On Paynter’s promotion to Premier League level, Beeching added Ben earned his stripes last season, and really seized his chance to shine. The ball is in his court to keep working hard, continue to build on his solid start, and make play an important role on the team this year. I thought his game took great strides under Lukas’s coaching, and that fact is reflected in our commitment to him as one of the building blocks of the future for the Bees with a two-year contract”. Head Coach Lukas Smital had this to say on his signings. “Tom and Ben will have big roles to play this year as we look to build on our playoff place last year. They both had strong campaigns last season in their respective roles, and after a good pre-season of preparation they are both raring to go, as are the rest of the guys”.
