Brad Fritsch Report for Day 3 of RBC Canadian Open Heres an update with Brad after his 67 today. By Chris Stevenson ILE-BIZARD, Que. – Saturday might be Moving Day on the PGA Tour, but for five holes, Manotick, Ont.’s Brad Fritsch’s van was spinning its wheels. Fritsch had made the cut at the RBC Canadian Open on the number with a dramatic, 30-foot putt on the 18th hole Friday that left him punching the air and he started Saturday’s third round tied for 63rd place at even par. He didn’t hit a green in regulation until the sixth hole to start the third round. But Fritsch stayed the course in the blustery conditions to get through that start and the result was a fine 3-under par 67 on the day, a 54-hole total of 3-under 207 and a move up the leaderboard. When the leaders teed off, Fritsch had moved up 31 spots to a tie for 32nd. “The wind was blowing and that made it a little difficult, but I stayed patient and I didn’t press,” said Fritsch, whose sharp short game allowed him to get up and down for pars on the first (lipped out a chip), second (chipped to a foot), fourth (sand save with a 10-foot putt) and fifth holes, though on the fifth he could putt from the fringe. On the par-5 sixth, he drove into a bunker, layed up and wedged to 14 feet from where he made his first birdie of the day. He added another at the ninth from eight feet to make the turn at 2-under. He almost holed a 9-iron on the 157-yard 17th hole for a hole in one, the ball coming to rest a foot behind the hole after hitting a slope in front of the hole and rolling ever closer, getting a rise out of the gallery around the green. “I had picked up my tee and was putting the club back in the bag and I could hear the crescendo building,” said Fritsch. “I was wondering if it was going to go in.” He then made a great par on the demanding par-4 18th after hitting his drive right of the fairway. A shot over some trees wound up in a greenside bunker, but Fritsch hit a wonderful explosion from some 65 feet to five feet and made the putt. “I was lucky to be here today (after making that putt Friday to make the cut) and I wanted to come out and play a good round,” he said. “It was nice to put together a good round and stay within shouting distance of the leaders.” After Friday’s 68, Fritsch is now 5-under par for the last 36 holes. “It will be the same game plan for Sunday,” he said, “just hope a couple more putts fall and I can have a really good finish here.” Twitter: @CJ_Stevenson
