Brad Hunt brought a great lesson at Bible Study yesterday evening. Way back in history a certain leader burnt his ships so his soldiers and sailors had no place to retreat and must conquer. He likened this to having faith in God so much that we would not retreat from His leading. Rather than burning ships, in my vocabulary it has been burning bridges. I can think of one important bridge I burnt in my life. As a young man advanced from laborer to apprentice carpenter I thought I was a hot shot. There was a laborer on the job who did not have good sense. It almost brings tears to my eyes as I remember making fun of him. I soon burnt that bridge of making fun of people regardless of their level of intelligence, color of their skin, and social and economic status. Naturally I give the good Lord credit for helping me here. In teaching adolescent boys for 18 years my style was never to belittle of make fun of a student. Although I did not have complete control of those students that made fun of other student they knew that their teacher, Mr. Snyder, did not approve of it. As a supervisor in construction I continued in this style of leadership. I am glad that God helped me burn that bridge in my life, it certainly gives me and my conscience a good nights sleep. Hope you have the same.
