Brad and I have decided to get up before the kids and read our Bible together. We started with Hosea yesterday morning. I asked him where to start and he just blurted out Hosea. (not a popular recommended way to start reading your Bible. Its not tarot cards. Be intentional!) I was really wondering how in the world we were going to find purpose in our reading and what path God had planned for this time in our lives as we read. I desire more than merely reading. I want to study! I want to write the scripture on my heart and apply it to every aspect of my life. For those who do not know Hosea was a prophet and the entire book is basically God speaking through Hosea about his plans to humble Israel and how unconditionally he will love them when they return to him. Its pretty intense and in modern day USA we might fail to see how this really affects us. Well SMACK in the very middle of the book (literally its 13 chapters and this verse falls smack in the middle of chapter 6) a verse jumped off of the page. Hosea 6:6 I want you to show love*, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me* more than I want burnt offerings. *SHOW LOVE - Greek means show MERCY *KNOW ME - Hebrew translates KNOW GOD It hit me right away. The entire purpose of us doing this is to know him and discern what he wants from us. How he wants us to live. Thus a study has been born. Brad and I will be reading the Bible and writing down every verse that tells us: 1. What does God want from me? 2. What does he tell me about himself? 3. What does he tell me about myself? A plan! I cant wait to get up tomorrow and find more!
