He could not shift his family because wife was working at Chennai and children were pursuing higher studies. Once he joined at Pune, it may not be possible to go to Chennai. So, After his relief from Chennai branch he applied for leave to his RM at Pune. RM rejected the leave and asked Mr.X to join immediately. Mr.X applied for Sick leave with Doctor’s Certificate. Every body knows how these certificates can be obtained by paying a few Rupees. RM, Pune asked Mr.X to produce Certificate from Civil Surgeon which Mr. X did not. When Mr.X joined at his branch in Pune RM called for his explanation for not joining immediately after his relief from Chennai and not producing the certificate from Civil Surgeon. Mr. X felt harassed and applied for Voluntary Retirement and gave three months’ notice. RM recommended to HO to waive the notice period. Mr. X was relieved immediately. The Regional Manager was boasting of the VRS of Mr. X s if he has won a gold medal in Olympics. Now the Questions: 1) Can an officer not avail his leave as per his needs? 2) If an officer with more than 25 years’ of experience decides to take VRS, is it a matter of pride for the Bank? 3) Is Bank justified in waiving the notice period when Mr. X has not asked for it?
