Braman, George S. West Winfield: George S. Braman, 79, passed away on June 9, 2014 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his bedside. He was born on December 7, 1934 in Binghamton, NY to the late George F. and Neva Austin Braman Hickox, and also his loving Pa, Delos Hickox. He graduated from Harpursville Central School. George furthered his education at the School of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. He spent the next 11 years working for the United States Forest Service throughout the States of Washington, California, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. George resigned from Forest Service to settle down with his family in Sauquoit. He earned his Masters Degree at Oswego and accepted a position as the Conservation Teacher at Oneida-Madison B.O.C.E.S.; he taught there for 28 years. Since they were 14 years old, George and the former Norma Bronson were sweethearts. On June 5, 1955 they became husband and wife in Sanitaria Springs, NY. Not only were they husband and wife, but each others best friend. In 1994 George retired from teaching which enabled he and Norma to visit all contiguous 48 states during their many cross country trips. He was an avid photographer of nature and loved canoeing as well as any activity in which he could enjoy the beautiful outdoors. He spent many happy summer days with his family at their lakeside cottage in Sharbot Lake, Ontario. George built a beautiful retirement home for Norma and himself on Fiddlers Green Road in West Winfield. George leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Norma; his two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Kris Braman of Griffin, GA, Charles and Teresa Braman of Geneva; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Jim Mitchell III of Rochester, Nancy and Ken Roberts of West Winfield, Mary and Mike Clements of Frankfort; his 18 grandchildren, Emma Clements, David Harding, Anna and Otto Isenberg, Laura Harding, Geoffrey Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Benjamin and Caroline Roberts, Kenneth and Jennifer Roberts, Thomas and Kristen Braman, Carrie and Carlos Ramos, Heather and Chris Karn, Jessica and Todd Penoyer, Tracy Bowers, Steven Mitchell, Evelyn and Brian Novellin, James IV and Christine Mitchell, George Braman and Charles Braman; his 18 great-grandchildren, Lauren Roberts, Olivia Roberts, Addison Braman, Kyleigh Braman, Ezra Ramos, Madelyn Ramos, Delaney Ramos, Lily Karn, Mia Walton, Joshua Hull, Kayla Karn, Makenna Karn, Leah Karn, James Mitchell V, Wes Penoyer, Jack Penoyer, Will Penoyer, Zavier Malachino and Jenna Malachino. He also leaves behind his loving cousin, Arlene Germond and her children; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Don Hoyt, Howard Bronson, Bonnie Bronson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving Aunt Burpee and Uncle Lawrence Humiston. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Kita. A celebration of Georges life will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 4:00 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. His family will receive visitors from 1:00 until the time of the service.
