Brandie Balken has been a crown jewel in the Equality movement here in Utah for as long as I can remember. During the last three years, TEA of Utah has enjoyed a unique and special relationship with Equality Utah because of Brandies desire to reach out, partner with, and understand the transgender community and their needs. Because of her, TEA of Utah has been able to grow in size and legitimacy. With her help, we are a stronger, better organization. She has been our Fairy Godmother. On a personal level, because of Brandie, I am a better advocate, leader, friend and person. She has taught me a great deal as my mentor and, most importantly, my friend. I have been able to call her in my frantic moments and know that the lady on the other end uniquely understands my struggles and can help me see a way through it. We have mourned and celebrated together through the ups and downs of equality in Utah. I have always known what an incredible woman she is - so it is no surprise that other opportunities would take her away from us. Brandie, on behalf of TEA of Utah, we wish you all the best in your new position with the Gill Foundation and your new home in Denver. May Colorado be gracious to you and Lisa and may this position afford you with the opportunity to change even more lives for the better. We know there is so much more waiting for you.
