Brassington Fell Race took place on Thursday 31st July in much cooler conditions after a sharp shower just before the race. 4.25 miles/500’. Starting from the Olde Gate Pub; a race taking in fields, trails, lanes and a couple of hills! With a BBQ at the pub and plenty of locals and supporters out to give encouragement. Good turnouts from local clubs including Wirksworth, Ripley, Ilkeston and 11 from MAC. Luke Beresford, last year’s winner, was keen to retain his title and, at the start, was furtively looking out for MAC runners, in particular Ben Cartwright, Zac Hodgkinson, Colin Davenport or Joe Hallas! Great to know that MAC runners put the fear in the opposition! However, fortunately for Luke none of the aforementioned turned up and he had a great run finishing in 29.38 ahead of team mates Matt Jones and Dean Taylor. Good to see Mark ‘Tommo’ Tomlinson back in action after his nasty fall at Sheldon Fell Race. MACs Karl Webster put in a fine performance finishing 5th after taking part in 4 events in 4 days this week. Ed Hoon, 1st junior and 11th overall, also ran well after undertaking 5 events in 6 days! Christine Howard 1st L. MAC results – Karl Webster 32.10, Ed Hoon 33.27, Christine Howard 35.05, Martin Lea 36.33, Dennis Belbin 37.03, Jim Thorneycroft 39.11, Steve Mead 39.55, Andy Hodkin 40.35, Sian Mead 41.26, Clive Russell 41.49, Rebecca Mead 44.37.
