Bread of life John 6:35 The print of the nails 3 "Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!" Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."" Jhn20:24-29. There is a disease that I suffer from and I think that we can spot a lot of its victims around us and that is denial. We deny that we are in pain. We deny having marital problems. We deny passing through a financial crunch. It goes as far as people thinking that God wants them to deny on the pretext that not talking about our problems gives others hope and this is completely wrong. The behavior that God wants from us is what He Himself has done when He did not deny His wounds as our Lord Jesus did with Thomas in the verses above. If we really want to give hope to those around us then we need not deny our wounds and to explain that, let me give you an example: Lets say that I am in trouble and I am starting to doubt God and coincidently you are in trouble too but you deny that and every time I see you I find you very happy and when I inquire about you, you tell me that everything is great. Then I will attribute your happiness to the fact that you have no problems. But if I ask you about the reason for your happiness and I know from you that you have lost your job or you have marital problems but you are still happy because God is consoling you and that you are sure that He will arise you from all this, then definitely I will get consoled and will have hope. Our Lord Jesus requested Thomas to put his fingers in the His wounds in order to believe and if we want to do the same then we need to invite the people around us who are starting to doubt, to come into our lives and see our wounds and see how God is healing them in order for them to believe too. The y need to see that our wounds did not prevent happiness from our lives with our Lord Jesus nor prevented us from resurrection nor prevented us from talking about our wounds with no pain or shame. I am not saying that we should go to the world with our wounds without any wisdom but rather to be ready to share with the people around us the reason for our hope (1Pet3:15). Please do not deny your wounds as they are the witness that the joy you are having is not from you or from your circumstances but rather from your beloved God who takes care of you when you are in trouble even more than when you are not in trouble exactly like the mother who loves her children all the time but cares for them more when they are injured.
